Professor Robert J Wood

has over 15 years experence of erosion-corrosion research covering cavitation and solid particle erosion in corrosive aqueous environments. Since studies into cavitation errosion-corrosion he moved to BP to work on oilfield erosion-corrosion problems and was a member of the steering committee of the joint venture project at Tulsa University. Since returning to Southampton in 1993, he has researched into erosion-corrosion of polymeric and thermally sprayed metallic coatings as well as erosion of CVD Diamond coatings as part of a EPSRC/DTI Surface Engineering LINK project. He has currently 8 PhD students to supervise and is a member of the RAE grade 5 rated School of Engineering Sciences. Current projects include using electrochemical methods as such the scanning vibrating reference electrode technique, electrochemical noise analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to monitor corrosion of coating systems. He has published over 80 papers in this and related areas. Professor Wood is a chartered engineer and a member of the Tribology Group Committee of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as well as a member of the Institute of Corrosion.
