Project title: Development of marine renewable energy materials

The object of the work will be to study the Tribological and Tribo-Corrosion mechanisms of materials to be in tidal turbines. The work will involve wear and electrochemical testing, morphological characterization using advanced microscopy techniques, and construction of Tribo-Corrosion maps. The materials used will include carbon steel and a range of polymer composites, leading to the development of hybrid and smart materials for such conditions. The work is linked to an EPSRC Supergen project (2013-2016) on materials for marine renewable energy processes which include tidal and wave energy conversion.
