PhD title: Slurry erosion-corrosion mechanisms
of thermally sprayed WC/Co based coatings
Mechanisms of tribo-corrosion of thermally
sprayed coatings are dependent on the tribological and
corrosion conditions. In such cases, the action of the corrosive
media may result in a reduction in the overall wear resistance
through making the second phases (WC particles) in the
coating more easy to dislodge. In this work, the effects
of a range of tribological and corrosion parameters
are being examined using an impinging jet apparatus. Electrochemical
techniques are being used to monitor the corrosion current
density during the erosion tests. AFM and SEM techniques
are being used to map the regimes of erosion-corrosion
of such materials.
