Undergraduate project title:Velocity
and impact angle effects on the erosion-corrosion of CrN/NbN
PVD coatings
In studies of erosion-corrosion
of multilayered PVD coatings, there has been little work
carried out on the effects of velocity and impact angle
on the sequential degradation rate. In this project, the
combined effects of impact velocity and impact angle are
being assessed on the wastage rate of a series of CrN/Nb
"superlattice coatings. These PVD coatings have
been developed by the Surface Coatings group in Sheffield
Hallam University. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) are being used to
characterize the eroded surface. The results are being
used to construct erosion-corrosion mechanistic diagrams
showing the variation of erosion-corrosion mode as a function
of velocity and impact angle at various applied potentials.
